Create message templates in Recruiter and Recruiter Lite

Last updated: 3 weeks ago

You can use message templates in LinkedIn Recruiter to send messages to potential candidates without the need to recreate the same message. You can create up to 500 templates to share with other users on your contract.

If an admin on your contract turns off automated follow-up messages, all associated templates, including 2-message templates, won't display under Product settings or while composing a message.

Important to know

You can delete a message template you own, but you cannot delete another member's message template on your contract. Additionally, admins can view and delete message templates set to Anyone in my organization under the visibility settings; however, they cannot view or delete message templates set to Only me.

To create a new template:
  1. Move your cursor over your profile picture at the upper right corner of your Recruiter homepage and select Product settings from the dropdown.

  2. Click Message templates on the left rail.
  3. Click Create new template.

  4. Enter your template name under Template name.
  5. Add a subject and message.

  6. Optional: Click the Variables icon and select a variable that will populate in the subject line or message body when you send a message. You can select from the following variables:

    • {firstName}: The variable for the candidate’s first name
    • {lastName}: The variable for the candidate’s last name
    • {fullName}: The variable for the candidate’s full name
    • {projectJobTitle}: The variable for the project’s job title (job post specific)
    • {projectCompany}: The variable for the company name (job post specific)
    • {projectLocation}: The variable for the project location (job post specific)
    • {jobPostLink}: The variable for the job post link (job post specific)

Note: A candidate must be added to your project to use job post specific variables. If the candidate is in a project with a closed job, the variable {jobPostLink} won't be available.

  7. Under Make this template visible to, select Only me or Anyone in my organization. Team members can access templates you’ve made visible to everyone.

  8. Click Save.
