InMail message responses in Recruiter

Last updated: 5 months ago
An InMail message sent from LinkedIn Recruiter appears as a message labeled InMail in the candidate's LinkedIn messages list.
When a candidate opens an InMail message sent from Recruiter, they can respond with:
  • A custom response
  • A smart reply (Yes, interested… or No thanks) paired with an optional custom response

If the candidate responds with a custom message without clicking a smart reply, LinkedIn AI will classify the response as an Accept or Decline. Any custom message, whether considered an Accept or a Decline, will allow you to continue the conversation with the candidate.

If the candidate selects one of the smart replies, a templated response automatically populates in the text box. The candidate can edit or send the response as-is to the recruiter. The candidate has the option to go back and change their selection before sending the response. Depending upon the response from the candidate, you’ll receive the following notifications through messages:

  • Candidate (name) is interested in starting a conversation. Please follow up soon to continue the conversation.
  • Candidate (name) declined your message.
Notes:
  • If a candidate declines your message with only a templated response, you won’t be able to reply further in the conversation thread. You can send another InMail message to start a new conversation.
  • If a candidate declines your message with a response, or replies after declining your InMail without a message, you can continue the conversation.
  • If a candidate directly sends a message without selecting an option, you can reply to the conversation.
  • You can see which candidates haven’t responded to your InMail message. To do this, navigate to your inbox in Recruiter and select the Awaiting Reply folder. Your message threads will appear when you have messages awaiting reply.

  • Every InMail message that is accepted/declined or responded to directly within 90 days of it being sent is credited back. A pending InMail message isn’t counted as either accepted or declined.

Important to know

Automated follow-up messages are treated as individual messages and will count toward your InMail response rate.
