Post jobs on LinkedIn – Best practices

Last updated: 7 months ago

LinkedIn helps you find the best candidates for open jobs with features such as listing specific skills, job functions, and industries when posting a job.

There are a few things you can do to get the most out of your hiring experience on LinkedIn. We recommend the following best practices when posting a job.

(Optional) Establish your company’s brand

  • Create and maintain your LinkedIn Page. Your LinkedIn Page reflects your company’s standards, visions, and values.

    • Include a company description and website.
  • Post company updates regularly.

  • Encourage employees to follow your LinkedIn Page.

  • If you’re linking your profile to the job post, make sure you update your LinkedIn profile.

Post the job

  • Write an effective and detailed job description that includes the required skills to target job seekers who match your criteria. If you want applicants to include a cover letter or resume, include that in the job description.

  • Associate the job post with your LinkedIn Page so the job will be displayed on the LinkedIn Page.

  • Add the exact street address for your job post so job seekers can view the commute time to the job from their residence. LinkedIn also uses the street address to enable better targeting for your job post.

    • Note: The exact street address won’t be visible to job seekers on the job post.
  • When it is a volunteer, internship, or otherwise unpaid opportunity, the job post must clearly state those details and the relevant expectations.

Set a job post budget

  • Post a free job on LinkedIn or promote your job to reach more relevant candidates.

  • Set your daily or total budget for promoted job posts based on your billing preferences.

  • Edit the budget, or close you job post to stop spending, at any time.

Review and share your job post

  • View your published job post by clicking Manage job posts from the Jobs homepage.

  • (Optional) Edit the job post.

  • Share the job post with your LinkedIn network.

  • Share that you’re hiring.

Review job applicants

  • Review job applicants. View their profile, resume, and cover letter (if provided) directly from the application.

  • Rate applicants as Good fit, Maybe, or Not a Fit.

  • Set up automatic ratings and rejection messages to automate your hiring workflow.

  • Message applicants directly from the Applicants page of your job post.

Once you’ve found a good fit for your role, close the job post. You can repost the job at any time.
