Create a LinkedIn Group

LinkedIn Groups provide a place for professionals in the same industry or with similar interests to share their insights and experiences, ask for guidance, and build valuable connections.
You'll be the owner of any group you create, and you can also assign other members to be owners and group managers.

Note: You can create only five groups per day.

To create a new group:
  1. Navigate to your Groups homepage.
  2. Click Create group on the upper-right corner of the page.

  3. Follow the instructions below for each field in the Create group pop-up window:

    Field Name Instructions
    Group name Type a name that indicates the purpose/theme of the group.
    Description Type a brief description so that members landing on your page can clearly understand what the group is about.
    Industry (optional) Add up to three industries relevant to the group.
    Location (optional) Type the location and select the applicable option from the dropdown.
    Rules (optional) Type the rules and regulations for group activities and other expectations from the group members.
    Privacy

    • Select Public if you want anyone on or off LinkedIn to see posts in your group. Only group members can add comments and create posts.

    • Select Private if you want only members to see posts in your group.

    Notes:

    Public is selected, by default.

    • You’ll not be able to change the group’s privacy setting once it’s created.

    Discoverability

    • Select Listed if you want your group to appear in the search results on LinkedIn and be visible on your LinkedIn profile.

    • Select Unlisted if you do not want the group to appear in search results for non-group members. Unlisted Groups are not shown on your LinkedIn profile.

    The content shared in any group (Listed or Unlisted) is only available to the members of that particular group.

    Notes:

    • You can select the group discoverability type only if you select Private under privacy setting.

    Listed or Unlisted option will not appear if you select Public under privacy setting.

     

    Permissions

    • Select Allow members to invite their connections if you want to enable your group members to invite others to join.

    • Select Require new posts to be reviewed by admins if you want the member posts to be reviewed before displaying it in the group.

  4. Click the Edit icon above Group name to upload a group logo.
  5. Click the Edit icon on the upper-right corner to upload a cover image.

  6. Click Create.
