LinkedIn Live Video broadcasters who want to connect directly to any streaming software or encoder can use a custom stream (RTMP Ingest) to go live from their desktop browser by visiting https://www.linkedin.com/video/golive/. This enables advanced broadcasters and professional producers to use the tool of their choice (For example OBS, Elemental, Zoom, etc.) or their own production workflow for streaming. We support both RTMP and RTMPS.
Aspect Ratio | Ratio 16:9 |
Resolution | 1280x720p at 720p (We support 1080p, but recommend streaming at 720p because the player only goes up to 720p.) |
Frame Rate | 30 fps |
Key Frame | Every 2 seconds (60 frames @ 30 fps) |
Video Bitrate | 3.5 Mbps |
Audio Bitrate | 128 Kbps audio |
Audio Sample Rate | 48 KHz sample rate |
Encoding | H.264 video, AAC audio |
RTMPS port | 2935, 2936 |
Captions | Going live with RTMP supports captions via 608/708 CEA passthrough. |
Testing | In the Custom Stream Preview Screen you can test Stream Health before going live. |
We recommend scheduling your stream in advance instead of going live spontaneously. Notifications will not be sent to followers of your page when you go live, only to attendees of your scheduled live event.
-
Under New stream, select Go live now.
-
Under Create a post, select the profile or LinkedIn Page you want to stream to.
- If you’re streaming to a profile, you can select the level of visibility you want for the post.
- You can draft the associated post copy and tag members or Pages.
-
Under Your stream details, add a Title for your stream.
-
In the Stream settings tab, pick your region. Not all regions have a dedicated source in the Region dropdown list. If you don’t see your region, you can still go live by selecting the region closest to you. Each region is allocated a certain bandwidth, and sometimes regions run out of available bandwidth. If this happens, try selecting another region close to you.
-
Click Get URL. Copy the Stream URL and Stream Key and paste them into your broadcast software. If you’re not sure where to paste them, visit your software’s help center to learn more.
-
Start streaming in your streaming software, and you'll see a preview within the LinkedIn custom stream page. The preview is limited to 10 minutes. If you're testing the stream, don't click Go live as this will broadcast the event to your audience. If you can view the preview, the connection was successful, and you may end the session from your broadcasting tool without broadcasting on LinkedIn.
-
When you’re ready, click Go live in the upper-right corner.
-
While you’re live, you can do the following on the custom stream page:
- Monitor your stream using the Stream health tab.
- Manage comments and mute commenters in the Comments section.
- Get the link to your stream for sharing by clicking Copy link to video.
- Stop streaming by clicking End stream in the upper-right corner.
Create a scheduled live event for a LinkedIn Page or profile
While you can create a scheduled live event on https://www.linkedin.com/video/golive/later/, we recommend you create a Live Event.
-
Find your stream, and click Prepare to go live. This option is available one hour before your scheduled live event. While you’ll be able to get the RTMP URL and Stream Key one hour before your scheduled start time, we recommend creating the RTMP URL and Stream Key about 15 minutes before you go live.
