Schedule your LinkedIn Live event from a third-party broadcast tool

Last updated: 2 months ago

Eligible LinkedIn Live broadcasters can go live spontaneously or schedule a Live Event in advance for their profile or LinkedIn Page by using one of our preferred third-party broadcast tools:

  • Restream
  • Socialive
  • Streamyard
  • Switcher
  • Vimeo

Approved LinkedIn Live Video broadcasters can then promote their scheduled Live Event on and off LinkedIn.
Schedule the Live Event

To begin scheduling your Live Event, click on any of the following broadcasting tools to access its instructions to log in and set up: Restream, Socialive, Streamyard, Switcher, and Vimeo. After logging in and adding the details for your broadcast, you’ll see the option to schedule the Live Event.

Note: The option to schedule your live stream is only available on these broadcast tools.

Important to know

LinkedIn Pages cannot use the LinkedIn registration form if the Live Event is created using third-party broadcast tools. This form is only available for events created directly on LinkedIn.

Gather an audience

When you schedule the stream in advance, a public LinkedIn Live Event post will be generated on LinkedIn to announce your upcoming stream. This post will be visible on the feed of your LinkedIn Page or profile. When you start your stream, the post will automatically show your live video. Live Events that are in progress will also appear in the header of your LinkedIn Page or profile.

On the scheduled Live Event post, LinkedIn members can click the Attend button to RSVP. Anyone who clicks Attend (your event “attendees”) will receive reminder notifications seven days, three days, and 15 minutes before the scheduled Live Event. When you go live into the scheduled event, we will send a notification to all registered attendees. In addition, we will send a notification to a subset of the followers of your profile or LinkedIn Page, targeting the ones most likely to view your video based on a variety of factors.

Here are some additional best practices for gathering an audience:
  • Schedule your Live Event on LinkedIn at least two weeks in advance to allow your post to gather more reach and attendees over time. This will increase the number of viewers for your Live Event.
  • Use the Invite functionality to invite your connections on LinkedIn to attend the Live Event. This helps increase discovery and maximize the reach.
  • You can also sponsor or amplify a Live Event post using Events Ads.
When you’re scheduling your Live Event:
  • You can choose a thumbnail image to show on LinkedIn to give members an idea of what to expect from your stream. For the thumbnail, the recommended aspect ratio is 16:9.
Once you have scheduled your Live Event:
  • Any event edits or cancellations you make on the Live Event must also be made manually on your broadcast tool.

  • You can add more details by editing the event description. You can also edit the title, date and time of the Live Event from the event page.
  • To delete a scheduled live stream that does not have any attendees yet, you can simply delete the event. To delete one that already has attendees, you will need to first cancel the event on LinkedIn. Then, after your event has been cancelled for seven or more days, you can delete it.
  • Once the event post is shared from your profile or LinkedIn Page, you can share the URL anywhere you’d like, including on other social platforms, in a newsletter, and more.
When you’re ready to go live:
  • You can go live any time from 15 minutes before to two hours after your scheduled start time. If you don’t go live within this time period, the post will show that your stream is cancelled.
  • For LinkedIn Pages, any content admin or super admin can begin the broadcast from a third-party broadcast tool.
  • Any member can access the Live Event content on your LinkedIn Page or profile before, during and after the Live Event, even if they were not an attendee.
