Connecting to LinkedIn Services

Last updated: 3 months ago

If you're a member based in the European Economic Area or Switzerland, because of the Digital Markets Act (DMA), you will have an option to choose whether to connect your core LinkedIn professional networking experience with our Jobs, Marketing Solutions, and/or Learning services. When connected, we share data from your core LinkedIn experience (like your interactions with posts, people and companies on LinkedIn, or inferred interests based on your activity on LinkedIn) with these other LinkedIn services to provide more tailored experiences, and to help to improve these services. Connecting your core LinkedIn experience with these other LinkedIn services doesn’t involve sharing data with third-party services.

Why connect LinkedIn services?

Connecting your core LinkedIn experience (including messaging, search, feed and your network) to other LinkedIn services allows us to provide services that are more tailored and relevant to you (such as better recommendations) and service improvements.

Connecting to Jobs

When you connect Jobs with your core LinkedIn experience, it enables us to connect data between these services and continue to provide you more tailored job recommendations, as well as allow us to improve these services.

Connecting to Marketing Solutions

When you connect Marketing Solutions with your core LinkedIn experience, it enables us to share data between these services and continue to provide you ads that are better tailored to you and your professional interests, as well as allow us to measure and improve these services. If you choose to connect to Marketing Solutions, you will continue your current experience while also preserving the choices you have made about the use of your personal data for ads provided by LinkedIn through your ad settings.

Connecting to LinkedIn Learning

When you connect Learning with your core LinkedIn experience, it enables us to continue to provide you more personalized learning recommendations and improve these services. Note: Choosing to connect Learning with the core LinkedIn professional social network is a separate choice from “binding” your enterprise Learning account. Learn more.

Once you make your choice it will take as long as 72 hours for the choice to become effective in our systems. Your choice only impacts the use of data from connected LinkedIn services following your choice and not past data connections that were permissible prior to your choice.

What if I don't connect all or some of the LinkedIn services?

Regardless of the choice you make about connecting services:

  • You will still be able to access all of our services (including Jobs) as you did before we offered the choice. However, if you choose not to connect any or all of the relevant LinkedIn services, you may notice that some of these services will seem less relevant or tailored to you or your professional interests.
  • You will still see and have access to about the same number of ads and/or jobs. Your choice will not impact the number of jobs and ads you can see.
  • We will still use your profile data (such as your work experience or skills) to help tailor your experience across LinkedIn services.
  • We may still use data across all services for certain purposes such as securing our services, preventing harms and complying with the law.
  • We may still use certain account and billing information across services in order to provide you access to your services and enable payments for any of your LinkedIn subscriptions.
  • We will continue to give you control over how we use your data through settings, and honor the choices you have made about your personal data in your settings, including your ad settings. Our use of your personal data is still subject to our Privacy Policy.

What if I didn't make a choice prior to March 6, 2024?

If you did not make a choice to connect (or not connect) your LinkedIn Experience to any other LinkedIn services before March 6, 2024, LinkedIn stopped sharing data between these services. You can update your choices at any time.

Settings and Controls

You can always control which LinkedIn services are connected to your core LinkedIn experience by going to your settings, including a new group of settings called LinkedIn Services. The choices that you make about connecting LinkedIn services won’t impact other settings (except for ad settings as noted below). Rather, they just expand the options that you have to control how your data is used.

  1. Navigate to your profile picture at the top of the screen.
  2. Select Settings & Privacy.
  3. Select LinkedIn Services.

From here you can choose to connect or disconnect Jobs, Marketing Solutions and Learning services from your core LinkedIn experience.

What ad settings are relevant to connecting Marketing Solutions service for DMA?

If you choose to connect to the Marketing Solutions service, you will continue your current experience while also preserving the choices you have made about the use of your personal data for ads provided by LinkedIn through your ad settings (i.e., if your settings indicated Off for the use of a data type for ad purposes, it will continue to be Off even if you choose to connect Marketing Solutions).

If you choose not to connect your core LinkedIn experience with Marketing Solutions, the following personal data types will no longer be used to tailor ads for you Note: We will still use other data in connection with your ads (such as profile) if your settings allow.

Inferred city location

  • We infer your city from your IP address. We don't collect or use any location data more precise than postal code and city for ads. Note: we also use your Profile location to personalize ads if your setting allows.

Interests and traits

  • We infer interests and traits we derived from your LinkedIn profile and activity Note: we use Profile data you enter yourself (like job title and company) if your setting allows.

Age range

  • We infer your age using information in your profile. Learn more.

Gender

  • We infer your gender using information in your profile. Learn more.

Ad-related actions

  • We use information about actions you took on ads to let advertisers know aggregate information (that does not identify you) about how their ad performed. The information includes activities from all your devices whether or not you are logged into our services.

You can always manage your advertising preferences and opt out of data use for ads via your ad settings. Learn more.
